Residents in Parts of Murphy Urged to Boil Water Before Use After Distribution System Failure

State officials are urging residents in parts of Murphy, in Collin County, to boil their water before drinking or other common uses after a failure in the water distribution system.The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality directed the city to issue the notice Friday after what is described as "a failure within the communication network" of the system.The affected portion of Murphy is an upside-down L-shaped area west and north of the city's municipal complex, Murphy Middle School and McMillen High School. A map is available here and updates will be available on the city's website and social media accounts.Affected uses including drinking water or water used for ice, brushing teeth or washing one's hands or face, and children, seniors and those with weakened immune systems are especially vulnerable, the city said.Water should be brought to a vigorous, rolling boil for two minutes before cooling, officials said.The North Texas Municipal Water District has collected water samples to test for contaminants and expects to have results by Saturday afternoon.  Continue reading...
