The run at the triple-digit record at Dallas-Fort Worth International airport came to an end Thursday afternoon, with some North Texans seeing rain.
The temperature at DFW Airport hit 96 degrees at 2 p.m. and then an hour later, thunderstorms pushed into the area and outflow winds knocked the temperature down to 84 degrees at the airport where all official records for the area are kept.
Temperatures warmed again, but the thermometer at DFW Airport only climbed back up to 97 degrees Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.
No rain was recorded at the airport, according to NBC 5 Chief Meteorologist David Finfrock, but the north wind put the breaks on the 2011 record for consecutive 100 degree days. The record stands at 40, two days shy of the record.

Earlier Thursday, at least a few residents were a little disappointed at the possibility of not breaking the record after living through such a hot summer.
"I want it to go ahead and prove that I'm right about this summer being worse than 1980," Dr. Al Roberts, an internal medicine professor at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, said as the record was up in the air Thursday afternoon.
He said even his pool hasn't provided him relief from the heat. "It's like swimming in pea soup," he said.
Bert Moore, dean of the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences at the University of Texas at Dallas, said rooting for the streak was a way for people to "create something memorable out of their misery."
"I told my wife that I wanted it to break the record," Moore said, then added, "Maybe I'd trade the record for a little rain."

Valet Jorge Medrano also said he was happy to see the streak end. "We could wait 100 more years for the record to be broken," he said.
The heat is still on in North Texas, triple-digit temperatures return Friday, the forecast for the next seven days calls for 100 degrees or more.
The area also still has a chance at reaching the 1980 record of number of total 100-degree days. Already, this year Dallas-Fort Worth has had 47 days hotter than 100, in 1980, North Texas had 69 days above 100 degrees.
