Texas Tech Storm Damage Forces Sports Cancellations

A late-December blizzard that collapsed the roof of a Texas Tech track center has forced cancellation of five indoor meets.

School officials in Lubbock on Wednesday announced the cancellations amid recovery from the storm that deflated the Athletic Training Center roof. The Lubbock area received about a dozen inches of snow before the Dec. 31 collapse.

Track and field coach West Kittley says nobody was hurt and the school looks forward to hosting future events.

The Texas Tech Open was scheduled Jan. 15-16. The Masked Rider Open was scheduled Jan. 29-30. The Red Raider Open was set for Feb. 19. The Wes Kittley High School Open was scheduled Feb. 20.

The Lone Star Conference Championships meet was also canceled.

Texas Tech will add away meets to its 2016 track season.
