Storm Damage, Power Outages Force School Closings Monday

Several North Texas school districts are canceling classes Monday after destructive overnight storms.

The Dallas Independent School District canceled classes Monday at 19 of its campuses, district spokeswoman Robyn Harris said on NBC 5 Today.

The DISD canceled classes at the following campuses:

Caillet ES
Dealey Montessori 
Foster ES
Franklin MS
Hexter ES
Hillcrest HS
Kramer ES
Joe May ES

Elsewhere in North Texas, Midlothian ISD canceled school at all of its campuses for Monday, citing a widespread power outage.

All Richardson ISD schools will be closed Monday due to substantial storm damage, power outages and unsafe conditions, the district tweeted. All school and district activities will also be canceled. The district said it anticipates all schools to reopen on Tuesday.

Garland ISD says Park Crest Elementary School, Williams Elementary School and Houston Middle School will be closed Monday due to power outages. All other GISD campuses will be open Monday.

The main campus of Richland College and the LeCroy Center on Richland's campus are closed Monday due to power outages, a Dallas County Community College District spokeswoman confirmed in an email.

Dual credit students from Hillcrest, South Oak Cliff, Roosevelt and Thomas Jefferson high schools will not be able to attend college classes at these locations or at Brookhaven, El Centro, Mountain View, and Richland Colleges, DCCD said.
