Ellis Co. Smoke from East Texas Fires

NBC 5 has received dozens of calls and emails asking about grassfires in Ellis County due to hazy skies and the smell of smoke in the air.

The fire chief said the smoke seen in the area is blowing in from grassfires in from the Marshal-Longview area.

"Currently there is a fire in the Marshall-Longview area of East Texas and smoke from that fire is being carried this way by light winds and cool temperatures," said John D. Patterson, emergency management coordinator for the Ellis County Office of Emergency Management.

At the time of this writing, there are no active fires in Ellis County.
