Stuck Truck Causes Traffic Nightmare in McKinney

Semi-truck's load stuck along railing for hours

An early evening crash Saturday in McKinney caused nightmares all night along southbound U.S. Highway 75 just north of El Dorado Parkway.

It happened sometime before 6:30 p.m., when a semi-truck carrying what appeared to be a over-sized load became stuck while traveling in the right hand lane through a construction zone. It appeared the load was stuck on a railing of an overpass.

By 10:30 p.m., there were still lane closures along U.S. 75.

Traffic was backed up for miles, to as far north as U.S. 380 as crews had to wait to bring a crane onto the highway to lift the heavy load to free it from the railing.

The truck's load was lifted by the crane by about 9:30 p.m. and the truck left the scene about 45 minutes later. Once crews removed the crane from the roadway traffic was able to pass through the area in both lanes. For much of the evening only one southbound lane of traffic was open.

There were no reported injuries related to the crash.
