LBJ Construction Could Slow Commute

New construction could slow the commute for drivers on Interstate 635.

Drivers will see traffic narrowed to three lanes between the Dallas North Tollway and Webb Chapel Road in the first phase of the project. Crews are working to make a 10-foot shoulder.

In the next phases, starting this summer, the work will expand west to Interstate 35.

Some of the ramps are closed and there are detours. Message board signs route drivers. Currently, the Midway, Marsh and Webb Chapel exit are combined. Some of the temporary ramps have sharp curves and quick lane mergers making them tough to navigate.

Workers are stepping up construction this summer, while the road isn’t as busy, and hope to have the continuous frontage roads and bypass lanes done this year in this particular construction zone.

The entire 17-mile project is projected to be completed by early 2016.
