Interstate 35W is in many ways the backbone of Tarrant County. Construction on the freeway is moving along, and there are now plans for even more work.
The plan to expand I-35W, including managed toll lanes from downtown to Highway 287, should be completed by late 2018.
Then, private funding is promised to complete the final portion from U.S. Highway 287 up to State Highway 114 and Texas Motor Speedway.
Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price said moving people along the I-35W corridor is increasingly important with rapid growth to the north.
"There's 40,000 jobs here, most of them new in the last 10 years," Price said.
There are just a few more steps to complete this summer before construction can begin next fall.
