Gas Leak Closes EB State Highway 199 in Fort Worth

The roadway reopened after 2 p.m. Friday

Eastbound lanes of State Highway 199, between Azle Avenue and Boat Club Road in Lake Worth reopened Friday afternoon around 2 p.m., hours after the roadway was shutdown over a gas leak.

A third-party contractor doing work unrelated to Atmos Energy was working at 6535 Lake Worth Blvd. when the natural gas service line was damaged, Atmos officials said.

At 9:30 a.m., Atmos said repairs to the line could possibly take another three to four hours. No evacuations were issued.

Atmos Energy encourages people to call 811 before digging, and it's required by law.

"Because excavation damage poses the greatest threat to our natural gas system, Atmos Energy has launched a 'Pledge to Call 811' to underscore the importance of safe digging. Calling 811 is free, safe and it’s required by law. As an added incentive, Atmos Energy will donate $1 to the American Red Cross (up to $10,000) for every pledge completed online," Atmos said.
