Fiery Crash Closed Highway 183 in Irving

A fiery crash on state Highway 183 in Irving caused traffic trouble Tuesday morning.

Police said a car erupted in flames after colliding with a dump truck just after 8 a.m. near the westbound exit for Story Road.

The car came to rest on the concrete barrier that separates the eastbound and westbound lanes. Police shut down the highway as firefighters put out the fire and crews worked to remove the burned wreckage.

NBC 5's Jeff Smith saw the dump truck driver leave in an ambulance with a bandaged arm. The car's driver had gauze on his leg and left the scene with a friend.

Police have not yet said what caused the collision.

The highway was reopened just after 9 a.m.
