Dallas Streetcar Line Construction Begins on Houston Street Viaduct

The Houston Street Viaduct in Downtown Dallas closed at the stroke of midnight Monday, and it will stay closed until autumn 2014 for the construction of a new streetcar line linking Oak Cliff and downtown.

The closure affects thousands of commuters who use the Houston Street Viaduct daily. Drivers are now being asked to use the nearby Jefferson Boulevard Viaduct, which was restriped over the weekend to make it a two-lane road.

To enter Downtown Dallas from Oak Cliff, drivers should use Colorado Boulevard to Marsalis Street to access the Jefferson Boulevard Viaduct.

The Houston Street Viaduct has been a fixture linking Oak Cliff and downtown for about 100 years.

The closure extends from Young Street/Reunion Boulevard in Downtown Dallas to Zang Boulevard in Oak Cliff and will be in place well into next year.
