Crash Knocks Out Power to Dallas Homes

A destructive crash on North Fitzhugh Ave. in Dallas knocked out power to about 1,000 people early Tuesday morning.

Around 3:45 a.m. Tuesday, Dallas police responded to a pickup that had crashed into a utility pole in the 2800 block of North Fitzhugh Ave.

The pole, electric wires, and electrical transformers had all been knocked down and were laying in the street when police arrived. Fluid from the transformer spilled out onto the roadway and required HazMat crews to respond to stop the spread of the fluid. Police shut down the roadway while crews worked to clear the damage.

Due to the damage, around 1,000 customers in the area lost power for a short time. Oncor crews arrived quickly to the scene and were able to reroute power.

Police said the truck was traveling northbound on Fitzhugh when the driver lost control, drove on the sidewalk, and hit the pole. The driver ran off and is at large.
