The crash took place at around 1 a.m. Tuesday along I-35E near Butcher Road when the driver of a tractor-trailer carrying glass lost control of the big-rig and went off a bridge, NBC 5 has learned.

The driver, who has not yet been identified, was hospitalized but later died from his injuries. No other vehicles appear to be involved in the crash and no other injuries have been reported.

Traffic was diverted southbound at U.S. 77 while the roadway was cleared.

By 5:30 a.m. the truck had been removed from the area and lanes reopened to traffic, but crews remained in the area inspecting the bridge.

Crews expect to have cleared the area by 7 a.m.
