Highway Construction Slows Weekend Traffic in 3 Places This Weekend

Construction projects in Tarrant and Dallas counties are expected to slow traffic this weekend in three areas.

Officials with the North Tarrant Express project will close the main lanes of southbound Interstate 35W nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday thru Friday, Dec. 12-16 for construction.

This closure is scheduled to occur again on the nights of Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 19 & 20. Through traffic on I-35W southbound will be detoured to U.S. Highway 81/287 westbound to Harmon Road to U.S. Highway 81/287 eastbound back to I-35W southbound.

Officials with the 35 Express Project said the northbound main lanes of Interstate 35E at North Texas Boulevard are scheduled to shift north onto temporary pavement at 11 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 11.

The new configuration will create approximately 3.5 feet of additional clearance for the new North Texas Boulevard bridge.

As part of this traffic shift, the following closures will be in place nightly from 9 p.m. until 11 a.m. through Sunday, Dec. 11.

  • Various lanes of northbound Interstate 35E at North Texas Boulevard.
  • The northbound exit ramp to North Texas Boulevard. Traffic will take the northbound exit ramp to US 377/Fort Worth Drive and continue on the frontage road to North Texas Boulevard.

This work is related to the 35Express project, the $1.4 billion expansion of I-35E between U.S. Highway 380 in Denton County and I-635 in Dallas County.

In Dallas County, the North Texas Tollway Authority said the following closures are needed for construction associated with the President George Bush Turnpike widening project between Monday, Dec. 12 through Friday, Dec. 16 (Daily and nightly).

  • U.S. 75 to westbound PGBT direct-connector ramp will be narrowed to one lane daily from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and nightly from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Westbound PGBT to U.S. 75 direct-connector ramp will be narrowed to one lane daily from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and nightly from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

All closures are subject to weather conditions and may be postponed, if necessary.
