The Dallas City Council is set to approve an item Wednesday that formalizes the major changes underway at the Belt Line Road and Interstate 35E interchange in Carrollton.
The Texas Department of Transportation and its contractor, AGL Constructors, have been working since 2013 on a multi-level interchange and its connections to multiple rail corridors at I-35E. The modification agreement is needed because of impacts to the Madill rail corridor, which the city of Dallas owns.
The impacts are part of the $1.4 billion 35Express project, which is set for completion by the end of summer 2017. That project includes not only the work at Belt Line, but also the addition of general purpose lanes and reversible managed lanes in select locations along the 30-mile corridor for Dallas to Denton.
The project also features a new southbound bridge over Lake Lewisville and the addition of continuous frontage roads where needed.
The corridor accommodates over 12,000 big trucks daily and handles almost 200,000 vehicles a day.
