Arlington is making another move to draw visitors and business to its new downtown development area between University of Texas-Arlington and Cowboys Stadium.
Arlington Trolley was created to shuttle visitors from their hotels to the city's major tourist attractions, such as Rangers ballpark and Six Flags Over Texas. Beginning May 25, the trolley will offer service to downtown Arlington.
“Downtown has grown tremendously over the last two years with seven new restaurants, the College Park Center opening up with a great facility for basketball and other events and we hope the trolley will bring visitors downtown," said Tony Rutigliano, executive vice president of the Downtown Arlington Management Corp.
Downtown business owners said they're excited about the new routes.
"The more people the better. It will get people from out of town come in and see our restaurants," said Twisted Root General Manager Jared Matthews.
Business owners say the recognizable red trolleys will make it easier for visitors to find the new downtown area featuring restaurants and retail as well as cultural and entertainment activities.
“There's a lot of character in downtown Arlington," said Rutigliano. "A lot of old buildings that are being redeveloped... and that's creating that character and that uniqueness for Arlington."
Arlington Trolley will run on its new route to downtown Arlington through Sept. 30.
Its service between participating hotels, Six Flags Over Texas, Six Flags Hurricane Harbor, Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Cowboys Stadium, the Arlington Convention Center and the Arlington Visitor Information Center begins March 3.
