Walmart's Wide Open Spaces

You may notice some big changes at your neighborhood Walmart in the coming months.

Several stores in North Texas are starting remodels that the company said says will improve the customer experience.

Changes are already under way at a Walmart in Grapevine, and some customers said they noticed the difference as soon as they walked in.

"I notice it's a wider aisle,” said frequent customer Nina Duff. “And we can get by people coming in the opposite direction."

The main aisles, which were previously packed with pallets of low-cost items, are now completely clear and wide open.

“A big part of it is wider aisles,” said store manager Jerrad Boyles. “Customers can go with their buggies, through apparel, through grocery and not have to worry about hitting other customers."

Walmart said the Grapevine store represents the latest in the company’s store design, which is meant to make it easier and faster for customers to get the things they need.

“You’re looking at better colors, at better floors, wider floors, lower shelves,” Boyles said. “It’s neat, it’s clean, it’s organized, and that’s what we’re going for with it.”

His store is also being updated with bright interior paint and easy-to-read signage.
