Tax-Free Weekend Set for Aug 17-19

Many families have back-to-school on the brain, and there’s one weekend that can help families prepare for less: Texas tax-free weekend is scheduled for Aug. 17-19, 2012..

According to the website for the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts, “retailers will not be required to collect state and local sales or use tax on most footwear and clothing that are sold for less than $100 during the holiday.”

Items like backpacks, calculators, notebooks and binders can be found on the tax-free school supplies list. Likewise, the tax-exempt clothing list includes such items as uniforms, jackets, shirts, and pants are tax-exempt during the weekend.
