Let the Shopping Begin!

Stores get a jump start on holiday shopping season

From Salvation Army bell ringers to big sales at the stores, the holiday shopping season is already here.

Many retailers are getting a jump on Christmas by offering the kind of deals and discounts not normally seen until Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, when stores hope to get into the black for the year.

"I love it -- the earlier, the better," said Joanna Izer of Benbrook.

Walmart, Target, Sears, Kohl's, JC Penney, Lowe's and Toys-R-Us are among the stores with early sales.

The early "Black Friday" sales are all about getting shoppers in early -- and hoping they return to buy even more later.

Best Buy is enticing shoppers with deep discounts on televisions and computers every weekend this month.

"I think a lot of our customers, year after year, are getting earlier with their shopping for Christmas," said Ryan Vaughn, the manager of the Best Buy near Hulen Mall in Fort Worth. "They try to stay away from all the hassle with all the traffic."
