Garage Sale Smackdown

Irving ordinance won't let sales go on without permits.

It is a rite of spring.

Homeowners looking to get rid of their junk, post their signs, then open up when people start showing on their doorstep at six in the morning on Friday or Saturday.

The city of Irving now has an ordinance that could stop some of those sales. Anyone conducting a garage sale has to obtain a city permit. Under the ordinance, sales can only run for 72 consecutive hours and you can only have two garage sales in a calendar year.

In addition, signs advertising garage sales may only be placed on public property from noon Friday to noon the following Monday.

The good news, these garage sale permits are free.
