Richardson Snags Alamo Drafthouse Cinema

Richardson is first DFW expansion of famed Austin cinema

Movie lovers may be familiar with Austin's famed Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, but soon North Texas film buffs could have a new prime place to watch flicks.

A new Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is coming to the Richardson Heights Shopping Center at Central Expressway and Beltline Rd.

For the unfamiliar, the Drafthouse is quite a cool venue to see a film, with dinner and drink available in the theater -- like the Studio Movie Grills, AMC Fork and Screens, and other area dine and watch theaters -- and a staff that really likes to build special events.

The Austin location has been home to fun screenings, including "quote-along" events, movie premieres, and things like "Heckle Vision," which puts your texted jokes about the film onscreen while it's playing. (Think of Mystery Science Theater in 140 characters)

Richardson's venue will be all digital projection and eliminate one of the biggest pet peeves in theater viewing, the dreaded Front Row.

The new Drafthouse is being developed in partnership with Iced Tea With Lemon LLC, who said they have plans to pursue additional locations for the cinema in the DFW area.

"We are very excited to be bringing Alamo Drafthouse to the metroplex and to the City of Richardson," Bill C. DiGaetano, COO of Iced Tea with Lemon LLC, said in a press release. "The City and the Richardson Heights neighborhood have been great supporters of this project and we can't think of a better location for the first Alamo in DFW."

We haven't yet heard a opening date for the theater.
