Some property owners have been shocked to learn that thieves have filed false paperwork with the Tarrant County Clerk to sell their houses and, in some cases, their mineral rights.
The scheme is the focus of a criminal investigation.
The new service automatically e-mails property owners when a change is made to their county records.
The service is free, but owners must sign up at this Web site to receive the alerts.
