Running Trail Proves to Be Wise Investment for Dallas Bar

Katy Trail Ice House, Company Cafe expect more businesses to open along trail

Two businesses along the Katy Trail in Dallas credit the trail for much of their success.

The Katy Trail Ice House has only been open for a little more than a year, but it's already pulling in liquor sales higher than nearly every rival in town.

"The numbers are pretty crazy," manager Luke Barr said. "Without getting too specific, we have done more sales than most of the other top 10 bars in town. It's crazy."

And neighboring Company Cafe opened to large crowds six months ago.

"We opened up in December," said Jeff Wells, the restaurant's operations manager. "[I] thought it was going to be a slow, easy growth, and it was not. [It was] definitely much more than we possibly could have imagined."

Judging by the sales they are ringing up so far, both businesses expect more competition to pop up along the popular running trail.

"Absolutely, I see more businesses coming here, absolutely," Wells said.

Managers at both Katy Trail Ice House and Company Cafe said that while they draw a lot of customers who are using the trail for exercise, they draw just as many who prefer to watch the trail.
