Norma's to Grill Up More Freebies

Grilled Cheese Day another excuse to give away food

Commentary
by Bruce Felps

Norma’s Café seems to be on quite a national food day run.

First they celebrated Chicken Fried Steak Day back during October. Then in January it was Pie Day, and mmmm, pie.

Now today they commemorate National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day with a freebie for any and all who order one. The offer is good only at the Oak Cliff original and the North Dallas locations, so, yeah, sorry, Carrollton.

Don’t try to get all fancy and order cheddar or Swiss cheese or any of that. This is straight-up good ol’ American cheese grilled on buttered Texas toast, and damn, I just gave away the secret family recipe.

For dessert — and because this, too, has its own day — order licorice, because, yes, today is National Licorice Day, and by the way, either pronunciation is correct, so all you “licorissss” snobs can suck on it.

And keep all this to yourselves, will ya? We don’t want the national nanny-state namby-pamby boys to come in here with their more-healthful-foods edicts and ruin it for the rest of us.

Bruce Felps owns and operates East Dallas Times, an online community news outlet serving the White Rock Lake area. He hates licorice.
