People in the Carolinas often debate barbecue styles -- vinegar-, tomato- or mustard-based.
The News & Observer reported that Dickey's Barbecue Pit opened with Wednesday with a $1 sandwich special, just across the street from Clyde Cooper's Barbecue, which has been open since 1938.
Dickey's is a chain with roots in Dallas, Texas. Roland Dickey says his tomato-based sauce is not the only difference. He says beef is his big seller, while the North Carolina restaurants focus more on pork.
Randy Holt at Cooper's says he's not worried, since Dickey's style is so different.
