Creole Cook Shares “Twelve Months of New Orleans”

Fill your taste buds with the unique flavors of "The Big Easy"

Enjoy a taste of Louisiana  with Illya Roberts, author of "Twelve Months of New Orleans Cooking" Sunday, May 30 from 2 PM to 4 PM at Cork in the West Village. While there you can sample a dish right out of her cookbook and get a signed copy.

Roberts is pretty important to us at NBCDFW -- because she's one of us! Now, she's taken a break from working in our Dallas office to unleash the flavors of the Big Easy with 36 recipes that will bring an atmosphere of “laissez le bon temps rouler” (let the good times roll) into anyone’s kitchen.

Growing up in New Orleans, the flavors, smells, sights and sounds of the Crescent City permeated every aspect of Robert’s life. She tells us the concept for the cookbook, which features Creole recips that complement each month of the year, came to her about five years ago -- but her busy life delayed her progress until Mom got involved.

"She said, 'When's that cookbook coming out?'" Roberts recalls. "I thought, 'Oh yeah!' and started working on it. Then it took just about a year to complete."

The book offers seasonal varieties of New Orleans entrees with a Creole and Italian fusion of flavor. Readers will learn how to cook Trout Marapas, Pasta Potpourri, Butter Spaghetti with Shrimp and Mushrooms, and other delectable dishes that are easy to prepare, easy to cook, and easy to enjoy.

Roberts shared one recipe with us in our Gourmet Yourself section. Click here to snag the directions for her Butter Spaghetti with Shrimp and Mushrooms.
