More Men Seeking Plastic Surgery

Driving force is the need to compete longer in the workforce

As the workforce has grown more and more competitive, plastic surgeons say they're seeing an increase in the number of men coming to them for procedures to help keep them looking fit.

Paul Herschman, 53, has had several rounds of Botox and also opted for liposuction on his abdomen. He says many of his friends have had similar procedures as a direct result of the economy.

"One of the things that has really influenced a lot of the men is that we're going to have to compete longer than we thought.  A lot of my friends kind of thought they were through professionally, and they're back working now," says Paul Herschman.

Dr. Bill Johnson with Innovations MedSpa says his practice has seen double digit increases in the number of male patients. Nationally, there was a 2 percent increase in men opting for non-invasive cosmetic procedures last year.
