Travel Deals Another Reason to Celebrate the Fourth

Last-minute deals offer big savings

Staying close to home for the Fourth of July doesn't mean you have to stay at home.

"In San Antonio and Austin in particular, we are seeing the hotel rates are down, so you can get a great deal over the Fourth of July for less than $100 a night," said Travelocity's Jennifer Gaines.

But if you want to travel beyond Texas, packaging airfare and hotel rooms together offers the biggest savings from DFW.

"Airfare is up over last year, but hotel rates are still down," Gaines said. "I found a great vacation package to Orlando -- three nights hotel stay plus your flights for $325 per person."

Washington, D.C., is another great destination with a terrific deal -- a round-trip flight plus three nights at the Hyatt Regency on Capitol Hill for $480 per person.

"Washington, D.C., is a fantastic place to spend the Fourth of July," Gaines said. "The fireworks are really second to none there, and it's one of the places where we are seeing the lowest hotel rates in the country."

The website Lastminute.com from Travelocity offers some great getaways.

"They have a product called "last second packages," and you can actually go online anywhere from three days to 21 days in advance and get a really great flight-plus-hotel vacation package," Gaines said. "If you haven't booked yet, I suggest really being flexible with your destination and just setting a budget and seeing where your dollar will take you."
