Pay attention party people! NBA All-Star weekend is officially here. That means if you haven’t already figured out what to wear and are planning a quick trip to the mall … well, look outside -- you may be out of luck.
For those of you with stars in your eyes and a map of all the parties you want to hit, here’s a bit of advice.
Patience is a virtue, especially at celebrity-hosted events.
Don’t marry yourself to the idea that you will end up poppin’ Cristal with Young Jeezy are doing shots of Cîroc with Diddy. The sad truth is most celebs don’t show up and even if they do, you’re not going to get past their ten NFL linebacker-sized bodyguards.
Look your best.
Ladies, you need to sparkle from head to toe. That means manis, pedis, and shellacking your hair into a sexy do. Men, take a shower and put your best foot forward. Don’t over metro it because it’s going to be a tough crowd that most likely prefers a more rugged, manly look. Keep clean it and coiffed -- mountain men are for the dogs.
Show up early!
Just because you’re on the list doesn’t mean the door Nazi gives a fig. He has a job to do and just because you’re cute and claim to “know so-and-so” doesn’t mean you’re going to get in. If the club is at capacity -- you’re done unless you don’t mind standing in the cold. Even then, you may want to hit up Waffle House instead.
