Mavs Hold Blood Drive to Kick-Off 2011 Season

Blood drive ends and 3 p.m. on Christmas Eve

Looking for a way to celebrate the start of the NBA season with the defending champs?

The Dallas Mavericks are teaming with Carter BloodCare to hold a blood drive the day before the belated kickoff to the 2011-2012 season.

On Christmas Eve, Mavs fans can make a donation to Carter BloodCare and receive a one-of-a-kind Mavs Championship T-shirt and a buy one, get one voucher for tickets to a future game.

The blood drive will take place Saturday outside of the American Airlines Center between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The Mavs open the season against the Miami Heat, who they beat 4-2 in the NBA Finals last summer.  Last June, Mavs-fans-turned-blood-donors took part in a similar event with the 'Beat the Heat Blood Drive' before the Championship game.

Carter BloodCare wants to remind North Texans that 600 to 800 patients a day in the Carter BloodCare service area require a blood transfusion.  They need 1,100 donors a day to meet that goal.

Potential blood donors can be 16 years old with a parent's consent; 17-year-olds may give independently. There is no upper age limit for giving blood. Donors must weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good general health and bring a Photo ID.
