Get ready to shop like a socialite this weekend at the Rummage Roundup, hosted by the Junior League of Dallas (JLD). Formerly known as Trinkets and Treasures, the JLD shopping event has had a major makeover for 2011, and you can expect to find pieces from coveted designers like Chanel, Halston, and Tory Burch at this year's fundraising sale, benefitting the 40+ Dallas charities supported by the JLD's Community Service Fund.
We caught up recently with Rummage Roundup's chic chairman, Kirby Stuart, to dish the details on the event and hear about a few of her favorite items up for grabs in this year's sale.
You're one of the driving forces behind Rummage Roundup's new look; how did the event evolve this year?
"When I heard women in my provisional class talk about last year's sale, Trinkets and Treasures, I instantly knew I wanted to be involved! We pitched ideas about how to revamp the theme, and from there, we secured a new venue (Dallas' Market Hall), extended the sale to cover two days, and brought on Genesis Women's Shelter as the beneficiary of anything not purchased during the show. Once it turned into a major shopping event, our donation quality and quantity skyrocketed! I'm also really excited about the $5 "grab bag" party to end the sale; anything you can stuff in one of our bags can be yours for only five bucks."
What top items can we expect to see during the sale?
"Designer items in our 'Couture Coral' from Christian Dior, Fendi, Prada, Gucci, Theory, Burberry, and Catherine Malandrino are among my favorites. I'm also thrilled that we have such a range of sizes and styles; so, there's something for literally everyone."
What's your favorite personal wardrobe element that was thrifted or found at a vintage shop?
"The 70's Chanel three tier, gold chain belt with a large medallion from New York Vintage; I also wear it as a necklace, and I love it. In Dallas, I like to shop Ahab Bowen and Emeralds to Coconuts."
What are your predictions as to what will go first and what will go fastest at the Rummage Roundup?
"We had a bidding war over some Burberry rain boots that we posted on our Facebook page, and I think it will be fun to watch people get so excited over our designer items! The home decor section also has vintage light fixtures, mirrors, and even stemware for unbelievable prices that I hope people will love."
Rummage Roundup encompasses several events; what's the scoop on the itinerary?
"The opening event is the major VIP Preview party on Friday, April 29; we'll be serving cocktails and western-themed bites to our shoppers. Saturday is the big sale from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday will conclude the weekend with our $5 "grab bag" Finale Sale. I can't wait!"
