Rain in the forecast forced Frisco to cancel it's Merry Main Street event Saturday.

Because of the threat of cold, wet weather at least one weekend event has been canceled, but others will go on as scheduled, rain or shine.

Frisco city officials announced Friday that they canceled Merry on Main Street scheduled for Saturday evening because of the threat of inclement weather.

"I have five grandchildren, and we look forward to it every year, so I'm disappointed that they're not going to do that," said Frisco resident Faye Lipham. "Just it's fun, it's festive -- it's a big night."

Merry on Main Street is just one of several outdoor events scheduled this weekend in the Metroplex.

On Saturday morning, thousands will attend the 24th Annual Children's Medical Center Holiday Parade in Downtown Dallas.

Organizers don't expect weather to affect the event, which includes marching bands, parade floats and inflatable balloons, but they are asking families to check conditions before leaving the house.

On Sunday, 25,000 runners will lace up their shoes for the White Rock Marathon.

"The rain really isn't that much of a problem," Marcus Grunewald said. "If it's lightning or high winds, we have to take some different precautions than we normally would."

Grunewald said if lightning persists, race officials would most likely have to cancel the event, but right now they are just predicting rain and cold weather.
