Fort Worth Christmas Tree Delayed

Tree to be decorated, strung before Parade of Lights

The city of Fort Worth planned to raise their 55-foot blue spruce Christmas tree into place Monday but have had to put that on hold due to a delay in delivery.

Monday morning the city said the tree didn't arrive Sunday night as scheduled and that the delay was due to an honest mistake by the tree broker who set the shipping date of Nov. 11, instead of Nov. 10.

The tree is now scheduled to arrive Monday evening and will be anchored into place Tuesday.  The city said the one-day delay will not impact the schedule leading up to the lighting of the tree on Black Friday.

The tree, which is being shipped to Sundance Square from Traverse City, Michigan, is one of the first signs of the upcoming Christmas holiday in North Texas.

The Christmas tree is anchored into place on a 6,000-pound base at in the center of Main Street between 3rd and 4th streets in downtown.

Once standing upright, the tree will be decorated and strung with lights so that it may be lit at the end of the 30th Annual Parade of Lights.

The annual parade historically takes place in downtown Fort Worth on the Friday after Thanksgiving.  This year, the parade kicks off at 6 p.m. near Belknap and Houston streets and ends at Houston and Weaterford streets.
