If you're the kind of person who likes to see a real up-and-coming musician before they're huge -- you'll have several opportunities over the next few weeks with Denton's Jessie Frye.
We profiled Frye last April after she released her EP Fireworks Child. Since that time Frye has stayed busy gigging all while producing, shooting and releasing a video for her single, Like a Light.
The video, funded by a 12-hour flurry of donations from fans, was filmed in both Sundance Square and Frye's Denton backyard and stars some of her closest friends. (See the video here)
"It was incredibly heartwarming to see all of these people get behind this project and make it happen. A lot of credit should go to my friends in the video. They made it come to life," Frye said. "Basically, everyone came over on the night we shot the masquerade scene and we just made it into a party. There really is not any acting going on."
Frye said that while she hasn't decided which song will be the focus of the next video, she has begun talks about the project.
In the meantime, if you want to see her live and in person there are plenty of opportunities. Frye is opening for Katie Herzig Saturday night at Deep Ellum's Club Dada. After that, next Tuesday, she'll be a guest DJ on 91.7 KXT. On March 9, Frye is playing a 35 Denton showcase at Banter with Julianna Barwick.
Aside from that, Frye will make a trip to Austin for South by Southwest to perform at Ten Oak with Anna Nalick on March 17 before she heads out on the road for a few dates in Chicago and Kansas City.
