DeSoto a No-Go on July Fourth Pyros

Blame it on the lack of rain.

Because of the dry conditions, the city of DeSoto decided to cancel the fireworks display at its Fourth of July citywide party.

"It's tinderbox dry," said Michael Laws, DeSoto's Fire Marshal.

Laws said the fireworks display is near a wooded area. If a spark were to land in the woods, it could cause trouble that firefighters wouldn't be able to get to fast because of all the trees, he said.

"As dry as it is and as heavily wooded as it is, it would only take one to get over in there and cause a fire," Laws said.

The city still plans to have the party at the Town Center.
