Bedford Animal Shelter at Capacity

Adorable puppies, kittens offered at reduced fees

Bedford’s animal shelter is at capacity and is offering reduced fees to help ramp up adoptions.

For a $40 fee, plus a $5 licensing fee, you can bring home a new dog or cat today.

“June typically sees a rise in the number of animals at the shelter due to this being the time of year when many puppies and kittens are born,” said Deputy Police Chief Les Hawkins. “We are asking anyone that may be interested in adopting a dog or cat to consider a shelter animal.”

Police Chief Roger Gibson added, “Bedford, as with most municipal shelters, emphasizes trying to find suitable homes for adoptable animals. The public continues to be our number one resource for finding homes.”

Currently, the capacity of the shelter is 40 cats and 22 dogs. Volunteers are fostering an additional 34 cats and 10 dogs.

Bedford Animal Shelter is located at 1809 Reliance Parkway in Bedford. Donations for pet vaccines are also being accepted since the shelter cannot provide these without donations.
