The Fort Worth Auto Show is gearing up for a busy weekend of activity as thousands are expected to check out hundreds of vehicles on display at the convention center.
The focus of this year's show is green as each year more and more environmentally friendly models come out. Some of the ones featured this year are the Chevrolet Volt, the Smart Car, the Toyota Prius and the Tazzari Zero.
With gas prices hovering around $3.50 and higher, many drivers are looking at some of those options.
"Honestly, I think I might be in the market for a Smart Car or a hybrid, in the near future," said Mike Figueroa.
Figueroa drives 37 miles to work each day and pays up to $75 to fill up, which is why he was checking out the hybrids and Smart Car.
But that green label doesn't just apply to hybrids, as most vehicles have increased their fuel efficiency as well.
"They're improving, whether its a Prius or a Ford Expedition," said Lee Chapman, president of the DFW New Car Dealers' Association. "They get much better gas mileage today than it did yesterday."
Fuel efficiency brought Chris Stengem and his family to the show.
"We're definitely looking for gas mileage," he said. "Driving in, that's what we discussed, we were interested in."
He is about to add another driver to the family -- his daughter -- and would like to keep those gas bills as low as he can. But hse said he will likely choose fuel efficiency over alternative fuels.
"I'm not sure about electric," Stengem said. "I think I'm like most people -- going to wait it out and see."
And Figueroa might be like a lot of drivers in North Texas, who wouldn't mind getting better fuel efficiency but not at the cost of losing their trucks.
"I just wish the technology would come out and make for a really good fuel-economy pickup. That's what I'd really like to have," he said.
The Fort Worth Auto Show runs from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. It costs $11 to get, although those younger than 12 get in for free.
