9/4: Matchmaker, Matchmaker

CATTLE CALL: Why try to maneuver your dating life into your real life anyway? That pesky nine-to-five, those picky friends and that sordid past make it way too inconvenient to find a spark the traditional way. Enter the Singles' Dating Convention, an event that could benefit from a "for entertainment only" disclaimer. Begin a weekend of accelerated love-finding (or, better, some simple Zumba and silly games) with Clay Wooten, master of comedy hypnosis. 6:30PM.

NEW VIRTUOSOS: A free Friday night show with critic's darlings Sleep Whale, Dust Congress and New Science Projects? It must be Free Week at Rubber Gloves. You'll hear jangly chamber-folk, folk rock, and electro-folk at night five of the series, which boasts the coolest collection of instruments between the bands yet: spot a cello, a bassoon, and a marimba. 9PM.

SOUL SOOTHER: Nick Kithas brings the jazz, a docent leads the tour for members, and The Modern's got themed cocktails to cap your workweek. September's First Friday is especially chill, so make reservations at Cafe Modern and your quiet night in Fort Worth is complete. Live music starts at 5PM, a tour and dinner seatings start at 6:30PM.
