9/30: Emo Appreciation

ROCKIN' THE DOWNTOWNS: Ben Folds has already hit up college vocal groups for his University A Capella project. Now he's moved from appreciating harmonious minimalism to enjoying the sprawling accompaniment of our city orchestra, and this time the collaboration is live. A Meyerson full of lucky fans get to see the treasured singer/songwriter with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra at a sold out Pops Series show. 8PM.

RED LETTER DAY: It's been ten years since Something to Write Home About was first worn out in CD players across young, angsty America, and The Get Up Kids are commemorating this milestone with a color-changing mug and a national tour. You can trust the band will play the greats tonight at the Granada with Youth Group and Pretty and Nice. Doors at 8PM.

WORDS MATTER: If you've learned anything from either of the above bands, it's that the right phrase can stop your heart and brand your brain for years to come. (Unfortunately, the '90s emo lyrics we're thinking of were first relayed to us as our delusional then-boyfriend's poetry.) So why not plan your acquiring of a gigantic latte around Art Six's open poetry forum and bring your own compelling verse? 7:30PM.
