8/6: Players and Plays

Stand up or sit down -- either way here's three chances to get down.

WHO NEEDS THE 80'S: The nineties were the best decade for many reasons, but the music was far and away the coolest thing about it all. The Smashing Pumpkins, My Bloody Valentine, Hum -- these bands defined one of the greatest sounds in rock history. Come down to the Prophet Bar tonight to experience In Fiction. With a sound that pays heed to the fairer decade, but with a forward thinking vision, this show is not to be missed. Awake at Dawn, Clone Mike, One Stone, Hey Hollywood also bring the rock. Things kick off at 8 p.m. with an $8 cover for over 21 and $10 for under.

COWBOY UPSTAGE: Tonight at at Theatre Three: Theatre Too you can catch "Flaming Guns of the Purple Sage," a sadistic satirical play by Jane Martin. Big 8, a feisty rodeo competitor, is a bitter critter, facing foreclosure on the Wyoming ranch where she rehabilitates injured rodeo cowboys. The arrival of a shocking woman named Shedevil and a one eyed Ukrainian biker named Black Dog ushers in outrageous violence and horror in this shoot ‘em up, knock ‘em up, cut ‘em up comic romp that roasts the cowboy mentality of pulp western writers like Zane Grey.

LETTING THEM LEAD THE WAY: If we say we believe the children are the future then let's get down to Casa Mañana tonight to see Les Misérables performed entirely by students. Les Misérables tells the story of Jean Valjean, petty thief turned honest citizen. Following his release from prison, he becomes the mayor of a prosperous town and a loving, adoptive father. But his quest for deliverance is continuously thwarted by the relentless Inspector Javert. This epic tale, set in nineteenth century France, is a great emotional story for all as Valjean strives and finally succeeds at redemption. Curtain at 7:30 p.m.
