7/14: Gettin' Frenchy With It

Three good reasons to celebrate wine and butter this Bastille Day

GET HIP TO IT: If there's one thing we know for sure, it's that Oak Cliff is hip. Like Williamsburg hip. Pretty soon all the kids in Park Slope will be moving down to Bishop Arts; mostly for events like this. Today the Bishop Arts District is holding a street festival in celebration of Bastille Day! Head out for the evening to enjoy a mussels competition with top area chefs, wine walk, Pentanque demonstrations in the street, accordion music, crepe stands, vespa scooters and more. The event is a fundraiser for Alliance Francaise of Dallas organized by Go Oak Cliff and sponsored by Eno's Pizza Tavern. More details here.

YOU'RE GOING TO DRINK MERLOT AND LIKE IT: Let's face it, the French know wine. They were inventing blending techniques before we knew our right bank from our left. Considering America's growing obsession with all things grape, it seems only fitting to stop by Cru Wine Bar to celebrate Bastille Day with a complimentary French cheese & wine pairing/tasting. While you're there take a moment to appreciate the multiple wines they have under their special preservation system, be it a small taste, or a full glass. Given all this, do you really need another excuse to have a decent drink?

MAKING JULIA CHILD BLUSH: If this Bastille Day is about getting your eat on then we have found just the thing for you. Local Francophiles will share a little joie-de-vivre when the French-American Chamber of Commerce of Dallas/Fort Worth celebrates Bastille Day 2010 at Lavendou Bistro Provençal. The gourmet wine dinner will include: House Made Salmon Carpaccio; Veal Medallions Sauteed with Wild Mushrooms & Port Wine Sauce; Sauteed Potatoes & Stuffed Baby Eggplant with Ratatouille; Curley Salad with Pancetta; and for dessert Mixed Berries with Champagne Sabayon.
