4/7: Opportunity Window

TAKE THIS CHANCE: The Middle East is back in Texas after reports from their shows at NX35 and SXSW had us seething with jealousy. And considering the sweetness native to the Australian band's sparkling villagers' balladry, it felt wrong. We'll gladly repent, in view of tonight's reward: the band has miraculously already found their way back to our big state to play the best club in town they could possibly have been wrangled to, Dan's Silver Leaf in Denton. Melt over the band's recent in-studio performance at KXT posted below. All ages. $7. With The Incredible and Eyes and Ears. 9:30PM.

LOOK CLOSER: Dallas Theater Center continues its self-esteem excavation that is Neil Labute's "The Beauty Plays" series with the regional premerie of reasons to be pretty, named among the ten best plays of 2008 by both the Associated Press and Time magazine. The play closes Labute's triumverate of commentary on our earthly shells with four young friends and lovers who form love triangles, squares and circles a la Closer all in the name of physical attractiveness. Find tickets here. Wyly Theatre, 7:30PM.

ROLL WITH IT: When Xanadu is billed as "Broadway's surprise hit musical," the poster is not understating. Venice in the '80s? An ethereal muse for a struggling beach bum/would-be painter? Said artist's ultimate decision to build the world's first roller disco? Yes. Let that settle for a moment, and you might be smiling too. See the feathered insanity for yourself at Music Hall at Fair Park. Find tickets here.
