12/26-27: Merry Un-Christmas

UNCHAINED MELODIES: The great thing about passing on Chirstmas tunes in favor of winter carols au courant is that you actually want to keep listening after December 25. Indie darlings Jacob Metcalf, The Fox and the Bird and Caleb Ian Campbell continue the Double Wide's awesome holiday-time run with a show put on by the Annex House folks Saturday at 9PM.

FESTIVE PERIOD: English poet John Keats' fantasies have stayed too hot to touch since pre-Victorian times, and director Jane Campion has dared to reach into the fire and speculate on his real life -- then cool it off in a neat, PG-rated package. Bright Star follows Keats' courtship of Fanny Brawne at The Modern in Fort Worth. See it at 5PM Saturday.

GOOD TIMERS: Rhett Miller and the Old 97's ease into their pre-New Years string of shows in Dallas, opting to rock Sons of Herman Hall instead of the squeaky-clean House of Blues like last year. The creaky venue suits the boys' alt-country-pop swing much better, we say, whether Miller cleans up with his newish signature blazer or not. Sunday, 8PM. $26.
