1/18: Indie Cool

Joe Santriani in Dallas, John Lennon's son in Denton and modern art in Cowtown

GUITAR SLINGIN’ PRO: Joe Santriani has some impressive instrumental talent – hey, when Mick Jagger recruits you as lead guitarist on tour that says a lot. Santriani has been flexing his famed guitar skills since the ‘70s and still knows how to wow a crowd. Hear what the sunglasses wearin’ rock vet cooks up tonight at the Granada Theater. The Grammy nominated guitar slinger hits the stage at 9 p.m. with Ned Evett and Triple Double opening the night of guitar virtuoso and rock at 8 p.m. Get up close and personal with Satriani for a meet and greet happening at 7 p.m. Tickets are $59.

THE GHOST OF A SABER TOOTH TIGER: Sean Lennon (the son of Yoko Ono and the late John Lennon) and girlfriend Charlotte Kemp Muhl are the duo behind the indie music of The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger. Tonight, the two pay a visit to the Little D – Dan’s Silver Leaf to be exact to show off their vocals from their 2010 album “Acoustic Sessions.” Hear what “Rainbows in Gasoline” sounds like live when the two hit the Denton stage at 9 p.m. Tickets are $15.

ART FOCUS: Artist Erik Parker knows how to play with color, swirling together all the colors of the rainbow creating “grotesque” and complex masterpieces. The UT-Austin alum brings his artwork to life with each stroke of his paintbrush. See for yourself why the artist describes his work as “fragmented samples of our culture” and visit his exhibit at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. Parker’s work will be on display until Feb. 6.
