11/4: Eloquent Soundscapes

BOSQUE IN PARIS: Mara Lee Miller and her husband Ryan of Bosque Brown are settled back in Fort Worth after their first ever trip abroad for an intimate press tour of Europe, where the pair twisted Mara's haunting gospel ballads with gentle effects for the occasion. We stumbled upon the reimagined songs at a house show before they left the States, and we've no words but the ones neccesary to point you to The Modern again today to see them with Alela Diane and Marissa Nadler. Watch Mara and Ryan's performance of "This Town" at Café de la Danse in Paris here for a preview. Open until 5PM.

AWAKE WHALE: Sleep Whale's much anticipated new album, House Boat, is finally hitting the shelves tomorrow with a Western Vinyl sticker and and an, um, boatload of praise from such nationally consulted outlets as Pitchfork. In truest form, the Denton band is throwing a release party not at promo-happy Hailey's or a friend's living room but in a beloved public square of imagination -- the coffee shop where brothers Paul and Joel North work behind the bar. Jupiter House on Locust Street is closing down for the show; only 175 tickets are for sale at the counter and then at the back door. 10:30PM.

ROOTS RISING: Larry Rosen's educational Jazz Roots series hits the Dallas Center for the Performing Arts, an event that makes our heart jump into the throat parts with gratefulness for the new opportunities afforded to us DFW-ites by the Center's arrival. The first concert explores the deeply felt place where jazz and soul meet with singer Al Jarreau and pianist Ramsey Lewis. Find tickets to the Winspear Opera House performance here. 8PM.
