11/14-15: Classy Act

BRAVE NEW SONGS: Oy. It must be hard to be Brave Combo. What else can you make out of polka, after you've sliced it up with Latin flavor, block party pop, and Christmas tunes for 30 years to the delight of Grammy powers and townie fans? The bands team up with members of the Mesquite Symphony Orchestra Saturday at Poor David's Pub to reinvent live polka yet again with songs they recorded together on the band's latest release, Symphonic Polkas. $15. 9PM.

RUFUS ON FIRE: Rufus Wainwright has premiered an opera. He's actually improved "Across The Universe" with his cover of the Beatles classic. And he's made it all look so easy in those pinstripes, unruffled by his own greatness. Catch him at Bass Hall on Saturday as he rocks songs from Milwaukee At Last and, surely, tunes your heart knows well. Find tickets here. 8PM.

CLIFF KIDS: Bishop Arts owns yet another Sunday with Cliff Fest, a neighborhood party that transcends any sub-scenes by including Oak Cliff private schools, churches, conservation leagues and do-gooder orgs at booths alongside reps from hip shops and eateries like Zen Sushi and Smoke. And, of course, there are two stages where local dance groups and musicians will perform -- not the same ol' names for a change. Admission is free, but a donation to the North Texas Food Bank is suggested. 11AM-6PM.
