10/5: Under a Full Moon

FROM THE DESK OF ... : By day, Pete Freedman keeps the local music interwebz interesting as the Dallas Observer's music editor, following DFW's beloved bands to the ends of giant music festivals (rain or shine!). By night -- the first one each month, at least -- he'll do more showing than telling as Libertine Bar's resident DJ. Catch the first installment of this meta incarnation of the Local Yokel Show at 10PM.

HARVEST PICNIC: Once a year, when the autumn moon is full and bright, the Japan-America Society of DFW invites the community to gather under an open sky at the Dallas Arboretum to munch on picnic dinners and soak up some nature in the name of Otsukimi (moon viewing). Use the inspiration to try your hand at a haiku, some calligraphy or ikebana (flower arranging) at demonstration booths set up on site. It's all scored live by the Flute Ensemble of the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra with guests on bamboo flute and koto. 6:30PM.

REUNITED: Sunny Day Real Estate is finally back at it after nine years of static, riding a wave of interest set off by the debut of "Seven" on Guitar Hero and a re-release of Diary and the group's self-titled disc. Fans should appreciate SDRE's pairing with The Jealous Sound, who opened for The Get Up Kids back when they played Ridglea Theatre more than five years ago. Granada Theater, 8PM.
