National Record Store Day Has Local Support

Let's face it, the local record store is up against stiff competition from big box retailers and digital distribution like iTunes, but this weekend is the time to make sure you visit the 'ol record shop.

On Saturday, local record stores will participate in National Record Store Day with a slew of local artists playing live in celebration of the event.

The biggest party will be at Dallas' Good Records (1808 Lower Greenville Avenue). Jonathan Tyler and the Northern Lights, Shiny Around the Edges, The Crash That Took Me, and The Cannabinoids feat. Erykah Badu are just a few of the artists playing a two-stage show from 10 a.m to 2 a.m.

Coincidently, Good Records is celebrating their birthday at the same time -- something they've done for the last couple of years.

Good Records isn't alone in the live music arena -- Forever Young Records in Grand Prairie (2955 South Highway 360) will host  jazz, hip-hop, soul, and country artists like Moot Davis, DJ Bones, and Asleep at the Wheel.

Other area stores celebrating National Record Store Day include CD Source, Movie Trading Company, Doc's Records and Vintage in Hurst; Forever Young Records in Grand Prairie; and Eargazum in Arlington.
