At a time when everyone is finding ways to stretch their dollars, the Nasher Sculpture Center introduces a new Summer Family Pass, which offers free admission to the museum during the summer months, as well as to Summer at the Nasher events.
These exciting events, which range from movies and live concerts in the Garden, to film discussions and family-oriented activities, are all designed to enhance the Nasher Sculpture Center experience and introduce new audiences to the world renowned Nasher Collection.
"This summer, as families are limiting their travel, watching their budgets, and choosing to stay closer to home, we feel it is especially important to welcome those from our neighboring communities and give full access to the beauty, serenity, and fun of the Nasher Sculpture Center," said Jane Offenbach, Director of External Affairs of the Nasher Sculpture Center. "We hope through the Nasher Summer Family Pass that the Nasher will become a summer destination where people will return time and again, during the daytime and again in the evening, to create memorable experiences with their friends and families."
The $35 Summer Family Pass is valid for 2 adults and children 18 and under in the same household, from June 1 through September 1, 2009, and is available for purchase at the Nasher Sculpture Center, Nasher Stores, and at DFW Tom Thumb stores beginning June 1. At the conclusion of Summer at the Nasher, Summer Family Pass holders may apply the cost of their pass to a new $75 membership and receive 12-months of membership for just $40.
In addition to unlimited free admission to the museum during the summer, the pass also allows access to all Summer at the Nasher events. Urbanites will enjoy Thursday Nights Free and Free Films on First Thursdays. Thursday Nights Free offers a little something for everyone: guests can relax and unwind with yoga classes in the Garden, try their hands at sketching masterpieces, or simply sit back and relax on the Terrace with a glass of wine and a bite to eat from Nasher Cafe - all while listening to enjoyable music by DJ Jeff Mitchell of the Phonophreaks.
Free Films on First Thursdays brings to the Nasher movie screen the best novels turned films ranked by AFI including M*A*S*H on June 4, Jaws on July 2, and The Grapes of Wrath on August 6. A film chat about summer programs will take place with WFAA Movie Critic Gary Cogill before the movie, and afterwards, film experts and special guests discuss the featured presentation.
Singles, couples, or friends will enjoy a night out with Friday Night Films in the Garden, offered June 12 through July 17. Guests are welcome to bring a blanket as they watch screenings of Hollywood's most beloved romantic comedies and grab a bit to eat from Nasher Cafe. Upcoming screenings include Shrek on June 12 during the City Arts Celebration, Mamma Mia on June 19, Sleepless in Seattle on June 26, Top Gun on July 3, You've Got Mail on July 10, and My Big Fat Greek Wedding on July 17.
Families will enjoy the monthly Target First Saturdays event from 10 am to 2 pm, which features a different "Big Idea" theme explored through art activities, tours, scavenger hunts, and demonstrations. In the evening, Saturday Night in the City from 6 to 11 pm features concerts in the Garden by popular Dallas bands and al fresco dining under the stars at Nasher Cafe by Wolfgang Puck.
For those looking for an enjoyable lunch or early afternoon out during the week, Summer at the Cafe gives free admission for café patrons from 11 am to 1 pm, Tuesday through Friday. Guests can relax with a cool glass of freshly made lemonade or iced-tea, and taste signature Wolfgang Puck dishes while overlooking the beautiful Sculpture Garden.
The Nasher Sculpture Center is also the perfect backdrop to celebrate special occasions. The Father's Day Celebration at the Nasher on June 21 will feature a memorable day for the entire family with gourmet, all-you-can-eat brunch, tours of the Garden and Galleries, and a live performance by the Arts District Cabaret.
