A Fort Worth attraction known for its beautiful exotic fish is expected to reopen Thursday after a chlorination accident killed more than 100 koi.
Workers at the three-pond Japanese Garden on Wednesday discovered dozens of the brightly colored fish dead. The ponds normally contain about 800 koi.
The accidental chlorination occurred during pond cleaning that is part of routine maintenance.
Richard Zavala, director of parks and community services for Fort Worth, told The Associated Press that the loss is expected to run between $10,000 and $15,000.
Zavala says "we may lose some more; we may not" when it comes to the total number of fish killed. He says at no time were humans exposed to any danger.
Officials will consider replacing the dead fish.
